A: Go to Subscribe and follow the instructions for subscribing to myON reader.
Q: What is the difference between recommended and all titles?
A: Recommended titles are chosen by myON reader based on your child’s Lexile reading score as well as your child’s interests, based on the survey data your child provided when their myON reader account was first set up. All Titles refers to the entire library of over 1,300 (and growing) myON reader books for children in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 8.
Q: How often is my child’s reading level assessed?
A: myON reader automatically presents your child with a reading assessment after every five books read. Your child simply follows the instructions provided and myON reader does the rest. You can view your child’s progress by selecting the “Account” button in the top right. Here you can see individual books opened and read, as well as a growth trajectory chart.
Q: What’s an avatar, and why is that important?
A: An avatar is an image that your child will select to represent his or her account online. Avatars help personalize myON reader for your child, and make the platform fun and engaging. Select an avatar by clicking on “Account” in the top right, and then choose “Change Your Avatar”. Follow the onscreen instructions to select a new avatar for the account.
Q: How can I see what books my child has read?

Q: How does the Recommended tab work?
A: Readers take an interest inventory which tells myON reader the types of stories they like to read (for example: animals, sports, graphic novels and cartoons). Readers then take a Lexile Placement Exam that will help myON to match them up with books at their reading level. The recommended tab suggests books that match both interests and reading level.

Select a word or type a word in the white box and click “go”. myON reader will display the word along with its proper pronunciation, its part of speech, and its definition. When finished, return to the book by closing the dictionary using the “X” button.
Q: What is a Lexile measure?
A: A Lexile measure is information about either a reader’s ability or the difficulty of a text. The same scale is used to measure both reading ability and text, and can range from a beginning reader (BR) to over 1700L for advanced readers. myON reader uses the Lexile Framework for Reading to test a reader and assign a Lexile measure. All the books within myON reader also have a Lexile text measure assigned. In myON reader, the recommended books for your child are based on both your childs’ interests and their reading ability based on the Lexile measure they were assigned from the placement exam or benchmark.
Q: What Lexile level should my child be reading at?
A: Lexile measures are not directly tied to grade levels. Children at the same grade level may have very different reading levels, just as at the same grade level children’s height vary. Student measures can vary up to 800L between students in the same class. Your state may have a target reading level by grade measured by the Lexile Framework. You can find this information online or through your school. Regardless of how well your child is reading today, targetted reading practice can improve reading ability and the readers’ Lexile measure. Reading more recommended books through myON reader is a key to helping improve reading ability.
Q: How should I read my child’s Reading Growth Chart?
A: First, set a timeframe that you’d like to review based on month. Then, when you run the report you can see your child’s historic use of the system, their current reading level, as well as project their future ability. Each dot on the chart represents a reading test. In general, the test scores should be going up to indicate progress. But, don’t worry — sometimes a test score may dip a little bit. This could be due to many different factors, but realize that additional targetted reading practice can influence the Growth Chart in a positive direction.
